Inspired by the 'barn quilt' movement that started in Ohio in 2002, we now have 42 barn quilts on display in our little village, which we feel may qualify us to be the Barn Quilt capital of Manitoba, and per capita, quite possible Canada. Most are traditional quilt patterns, but some are original designs, all painted on sign board.
The blocks inject colour into the backdrop of our our every day life in our community. It is our hope that these will encourage others to create more and eventually a 'barn quilt trail' can reach from Neepawa to Dauphin. Currently, there are some in Neepawa, the villages of Riding Mountain, McCreary and Ste Rose all have some.
There is a map of the barn quilts, designed by artist James Culleton, available at The Barn and Cafe 37 in Kelwood.
